Jacques Cartier was a French explorer. The king of France ordered him to find gold, spices, and a way to Asia for France. He and his crew sailed to Canada.
They explored the St. Lawrence River up to Prince Edward Island. They met Native Americans from the Iroquois tribes. It was a friendly meeting.
The chief even let two of his sons return with Cartier to France. The sons went and were returned two years later.
